HAUGHTON'S JOHN BROWN COMES THROUGH THE LINE AFTER WINNING THE VIKING INVITATIONAL 400m
This week, we congratulate a couple of Bossier Parish seniors who have won the MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week honors. Haughton's John Brown and Benton's Kyla Daux will now advance to the MileSplit LA Outdoor Athlete Of The Year poll at the end of the season.
Brown won the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week poll with 501 votes. Lafayette Christian Academy's Braylon Walker was the runner-up with 314 votes.
Daux won the MileSplit LA Girls' Performer Of The Week poll with 160 votes. Parkview Baptist's Georgia Theriot was the runner-up with 76 votes.
The girls 300m hurdle record holder, Daux was trailing until the last meter at the Airline Viking Invitational in her record-setting performance before leaning and edging out Captain Shreve's Leah Bryant for the win. She also had a personal record in the 100m hurdles during the same meet as she finished third with a time of 15.92.
Last Thursday, Daux had yet another PR as she finished third in the "Hoss" Garrett Relays 800m with a time of 2:25.53.
Brown stacked a couple of early season wins in the 400m. He went 48.38 at the Airline Viking Invitational. That is only .10 off his personal record in his opener at the Shamocus Patton Relays. He is currently ranked No. 3 in Louisiana in the 400m.
This past week, Brown transitioned to the shorter distances at Bossier's Don Millen Bearkat Relays. He won both the 100m (11.24) and the 200m (21.90). The latter is ranked No. 9 in Louisiana.
