LSU LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER INTERVIEWS

After an incredible junior year, Barbe's Kennedi Burks left herself a tough act to follow in her final year of high school track and field, but during the first few weeks of the 2025 indoor season she has demonstrated that she is looking for some big things during the last semester of her high school career.

For the second time this season, Burks broke her own record on Saturday at the LSU Last Chance Qualifier. Burks' time of 55.01 in the girls' 400m lowered her fieldhouse composite record of 55.87 set last year at the LHSAA D1 State Indoor Meet.

Her time is also a new meet record, breaking Zachary's Janie O'Connor's mark of 56.18 set in 2016.

Burks wasn't the only sprinter in heat No. 1 of the girls 400m to better the meet record. Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) sophomore Jaleiya Woods (55.91), and St. Louis High's Hannah Boullion (56.16) also broke the meet record.
