KALEB BIGWOOD AND ALEXANDRIA STEWART TAKE A QUICK PICTURE WITH THEIR BUCKLES!
Hamilton Christian's Kaleb Bigwood and St. Joseph's Baton Rouge Alexandria Stewart both broke records in the 400m yesterday at the McNeese Indoor No. 2. Bigwood and Stewart were just two of six athletes to etch their name in the record books.
All record breakers received a shiny silver buckle from McNeese State head coach Brendon Gilroy, who played to the spirit of the university's mascot--the Cowboys.
Bigwood, who won the 400m on his birthday during his last trip to the McNeese Recreation Center, ran 48.79 breaking Sean Burrell's record of 49.07 set in 2019. Bigwood is the only sprinter in Louisiana who has run under 49 seconds in Louisiana this year.
Stewart (56.59) held off Lafayette freshman Lyric Louis (56.93) to tie Morgan Stewart's mark in 2017.
Other meet records on the track included the Barbe 4x800m team (10:04) and Parkview Baptist's Aiden Monistere (9:37) in the 3200m.
The Barbe relay team included Kennedi Burks, Camille Rembert, Kylin Chapman, and Reese Trahan.
Monistere broke Parkway's Brennan Robin's 9:42.26, which he set last year as a freshman.
East Ascension's Kiristen Mcgirt surpassed the 49 foot mark with her winning throw of 49-1 in the girls shot put. That mark was just over seven feet better than the old record held by Zoe Shanklin since 2019.
Last, but certainly not least, was Destrehan's Marley Richard, who broke the meet record in the girls triple jump. Richard, who signed with LSU during the early signing period, jumped 37-11 winning the competition by three feet and breaking her own meet record set last year by 2.5 inches.
