MILESPLIT LA COACHES CONVERSATION: Catholic Coach Don Hood!

Forty-two years. That's how long Catholic's throws coach Don Hood has been in the game.

It started when legendary, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame coach Pete Boudreaux approached Hood and asked him what he knew about the throwing events.

"I told him I didn't know anything," Hood said last Saturday at the McNeese Indoor No. 1. "I was a sprinter in high school."

But that was about to change. As it turns out, Boudreaux had an eye for helping coaches reach their potential as much as the hundreds of athletes he worked with.

In turn has helped hundreds of throwers over his more than four decades. Including national champions like LSU's Paul Catalanatto, who won a national championship last summer at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon.

This year, junior Jack Torrance has been the highlight of the Catholic throws group. Torrance started with a six-foot personal record in a runner up finish at the LSU HS Classic. After a hard week of training, Torrance, who his the grandson of LSU Hall of Famer and former world record holder Jack "Baby Jack" Torrance, added two more feet to her personal best at the McNeese Indoor No. 1.

In the interview below, hear from Coach Hood had to say about Torrance and his improvement in the shot put since last season.
