Last year, Atlanta, Ga.'s Madeline Cooper, running for the Sapphire Track Club, had a day at the LSU Indoor Classic by breaking two meet records in a span of five minutes. This year, she will return to Baton Rouge to try to break her own records in both the 60m and 60m hurdles.
Her assault on the record books last year began in the 60m hurdles where she beat the hometown favorite and No. 1 hurdler in the nation--Makeriah Harris--with a time of 8.45.

After a quick conversation with her coaches, Cooper jogged back down to the start, sat down on the purple and gray mondo track, and waited for the finals of the 60m.
In that race, Cooper ran a blistering 7.48 to break the old record in that race as well.
The LSU High School Classic will not be Cooper's opener. She opened her season last month at the Galleria Games in Birmingham, AL. That meet proved that she is faster than she was a year ago. Her 60m time in the Galleria Games in 2024 was 7.66. This year, she won with a time of 7.47.

The Galleria Games also provided a snapshot for top Louisiana sprinters, who could challenge Cooper on Saturday's LSU HS Classic. West Feliciana's Tristen Harris, like Cooper, is faster than she was a year ago. She finished third at the Galleria Games with a time of 7.53. Other Louisiana sprinters in the mix included Destrehan's Marley Richard (7.67), Zachary's Talar Johnson (7.80), and St. Joseph's Dillon Landry (7.81).
Landry is the only one who is presently not entered in Saturday's meet.
