BATON ROUGE -- Two days after winning the LSU Invitational Tiger senior Jimmy Wiggins was named the SEC\'s Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week it was announced Monday by the conference office.
The honor marks Wiggin\'s first of the season, and the third of his career, as he was also recognized twice during the 2003 campaign.
The Covington native helped the Tigers to their first team victory of the season, leading an LSU assault that resulted in five top-10 finishes and just 29 total points.
Wiggins cruised to victory on the 8K Highland Road Park course, finishing the race in 25:31.55. His time, a season-best, was 24 seconds faster than the nearest competitor.
Wiggins and the rest of the LSU cross country team will take two weeks off before returning to action Monday, Oct. 11 at the Auburn Invitational.
