Michael Brame, who graduated from Word Of God Academy in Shreveport in May, got off a huge personal record throw on Wednesday afternoon to finish as the runner-up in the 17-18 boys javelin at the USATF National Junior Olympics in College Station, Texas.
Brame, who had a best of 153-5 during the high school season, found his groove on his third throw in the prelims with a huge effort of 189-9. The throw was 24 feet better than any of his his other throws in the competition. In the finals, he passed on his fifth and sixth attempts.
Alabama's Grant Weighall won the competition with a throw of 193-4.
Earlier this month, Brame finished third at the USATF Region 6 Junior Olympics with a throw of 159-8.5
Brame is coached by River Cities Track Club's throws coach LaChelsea Oliver.
