School Records Fall At McNeese
Feb. 5, 2010 LAKE CHARLES, La. - Freshman distance runner Brea Goodman set a new school record in the mile, junior Kadi Whisnant bettered the old school mile mark and the 4x400 m relay team clocked in with a program best time of 3:55.37 to cap off a highlight filled day for the Nicholls State University women's track team at the Jeff Davis Bank/McNeese State Indoor Meet on Friday. Goodman and Whisnant continued a string of strong performances from the Colonel distance crew this indoor season when each bettered the previous school record in the indoor mile. Goodman claimed first place by clocking in at 5:07.03 with Whisnant 1.65 seconds behind in third. It marked the fourth time this season that the Colonels bettered the school record coming into the indoor campaign. Meanwhile, the Colonels dominated the relays, running three 4x400 teams and taking the top three spots in the women's relays. The Nicholls 'A' squad highlighted the evening with a time of 3:55.37 that set a new school record by nearly 2.5 seconds. The Colonels school record time also provided the breakthrough performance Nicholls was looking for to qualify their relay squad for the Southland Conference Championships. Combined with sprinter Monisha Glee's fourth place 55 m time of 7.51, the Colonels increased their total of Southland Championship qualifiers to 15 in seven different events. With three weeks to go until the conference championships, the Colonels will take a week off from competition before heading to the LSU Twilight Meet on Feb. 19.
