THROWBACK THURSDAY: 2023 LSU High School Classic Interviews!

As we get closer to Louisiana's first indoor meet of the season, we thought we would take a look back at five athletes who competed at last year's LSU High School Classic and see what they had to say abou their about their Performance.

1. Mt Carmel's Catalina Reichard

What a year it was for Reichard! And it all started the LSU High School Classic with a 5:22.84 in the 1600m. She would go on to crush her personal record in the event with a 5:12.35 at the LHSAA State Indoor Meet. While she finished on the podium with that effort, receiving a bronze medal, she won her first state championship later in the meet in the 3200m (11:21.91).

It would be her first of four, the latest being the LHSAA D1 State Cross Country Championship (17:28) where she had the fastest time in all divisions.

2. Ascension Episcopal's Sara Godley

Godley focused on the 1600m during last year's indoor season. And she got faster every meet. After opening with a third place (5:28.59) at the LSU High School Classic, she would go on to finish fourth at the LHSAA State Indoor Meet with a 5:23.87.

She is coming off her first state championship from the LHSAA D4 State Cross Country Championship (18:34.90).

3. Teurlings Catholic's Addison Richey

An injury prevented Richey from reaching her potential during the 2023 indoor season. The LSU High School Classic would be her only indoor meet, but she was able to return outdoors where she captured her first state championship at the LHSAA 4A State Outdoor Meet (12-5.25).

That performance at the state outdoor meet was almost a foot and a half better than her next best performance.

4. John Curtis' King Taylor

The King has not wasted any time getting started. In fact, his 2024 season began this month with his performance at The Galleria Games in Birmingham, Alabama. He started with personal records in both the 60m (7.24) and the 400m (48.31).

The latter is currently the No. 3 time in the nation. It is also a faster than the fastest time recorded in by any Louisiana sprinter in 2023.

Taylor's time in the 400m earlier this month is also a full second faster than his winning time of 49.40 at last year's LSU High School Classic.

While it may take him a meet or to two to produce that kind of time of a flat track, look for Taylor to go sub 48 during the 2024 indoor season.

5. Scotlandville's Makeriah Harris

Like Taylor, Harris has not wasted any time in making a bold statement to begin her senior year at Scotlandville. Earlier this month, she competed in the FasTrak Athletix High School Indoor Challenge and ran a nation-leading time of 8.50 in the 60m hurdles.

That was not far from her personal record of 8.37, which she ran at New Balance Indoor Nationals in March.

Last year at the LSU High School Classic, Harris ran a 8.57 in the prelims before running a 8.71 in the finals for the win.
