POLL WINNERS! Richard, Matthews win Performer of the Week!

Destrehan sophomore Marley Richard is this week's MileSplit LA Girls' Performer of the Week poll by getting 60% of the vote. The runner-up was John Curtis' London Parker, who had 19% of the vote.

It was a closer race in the boys' poll, where Zachary's Vederek Matthews won the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer of the Week poll. Matthews captured 34% of the vote, six percent more than Scotlandville's Ferzell Shepard

The Richard Family may be looking for a bigger trophy case for the 13 gold medals she has won this year. Not to mention all of the outstanding athlete plaques she has received. Going into the championship season, Richard is a perfect 13-0 combined in all of her individual events-- long jump, triple jump, 100m, and 200m.

As only one of two girls who have long jumped 19-0 feet this season, Richard is ranked No.2, but is No. 1 in the consistency department. Richard has jumped further than 18-6 in all three meets this season. Covington's Kerrington Baham has jumped over 18-6 once, and that was a 19-9--so there could be an error with that mark.

At the Nollie Arcemant Relays, Richard had her season best of 19-0.5, which is ranked No. 15 in the nation among sophomore girls.

Matthews, a junior, has a best of 14.45 in the 110m hurdles. He has won four out of six races this season. In all of his wins, Matthew was under 15 seconds. Matthews in ranked No. 7 in Louisiana.

In the 300m hurdles, Matthew has won three out of six races. When he didn't win, Matthews finished second. Matthews is ranked No. 5 in Louisiana.

Both Richard and Matthews will now advance to make the ballot and compete for MileSplit LA Athlete of the Month in two weeks
