OCS SOPH CAROLINE PANKEY (1446) IS LA'S MOST IMPROVED 1600m RUNNER!
There are several athletes in the Ouachita Christian track and field program who have a shelf full of medals. There are others who can tell you stories about competing in the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships. SophomoreCaroline Pankey is not one of those athletes...yet. However, Pankey is the most improved high school girl in the 1600m. And that's something! She had a best time last year of 6:27.21. After a strong cross country season and deciding to give up softball to concentrate on her training, Pankey has positioned herself among the best distance runners in LHSAA's Class 1A.
She has a season best of 5:45.81, which she ran at the OCS Invitational last week. That's an improvement of 41 seconds. She is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 1A.
The hard work has paid of for Pankey, who picked up the first win of her school career in the 3200m of the Port City Glass Panther Relays (12:52.29). Since winning that first gold...
