Three La. Sprinters PR In Texas Relays 100m Hurdle Prelims!

SLC's KENZIE TOUCHET RUNS IN THE DENHAM SPRINGS MEET EARLIER THIS YEAR!

Three of Louisiana's best sprinters will be in the finals of the 100m hurldes on Saturday at the Clyde LittlefieldTexas Relays in Austin, Texas after lowering their personal all conditions record in the prelims on Friday.

St. Louis Catholic's Kenzie Touchet and Huntington's Demetria Harris will be in the finals in Division II.Touchet ran a 14.00 in Friday's prelims, which was the fastest qualifying time in the division. Harris ran a 14.55.

"I just asked God to guide my feet and I went into the race wanting to get a good start," Touchet said. "Going into tomorrow's final, I want to get another good start and get to get over the top as fast as possible."

"It was a good race, a good start," said SLC head coach Johnny Giordano. "She has been real consistent and working hard, and just did a great job."

Touchet's previous personal best was 14.06 at the Ram Relays on March 10. Harris lowered her previous best of 14.59, which she ran last May when she claimed the LHSAA Class 4A outdoor state championship in the event.

Both Touchet and Harris were in action with their relay teams, who turned in impressive performances. The St. Louis Catholic 4x400 (Kylie Pousson, Addison Moreno, Touchet, and Hannah Boullion) ran a 3:55.92 in the prelims. Only Fort Bend Christian (3:51.90) ran faster.

Fort Bend Christian (1:39.43) also turned in the fastest time in the 4x200 prelims. The second-fastest time--1:39.75-- was Huntington's relay of Harris, Rondisia Williams, Aniyah Jackson, and T'la Dewitt

Scotlandville's Makeriah Harris was competing in Division I of the 100m hurdles, where she finished third a year ago as a sophomore.

Her time on Friday was a wind-aided 13.55, just .03 faster than her wind-aided 13.58 in last year's Texas Relays finals.

"As my season's best, it's an amazing accomplishment, but this race has only made me hungrier," Harris said.

Harris is seeded No. 2 going into tomorrow's Division I finals. Rylee Hampton of Houston Cypress Ridge had the fastest time in the prelims with a 13.31, which measured slightly over the limit for a sprint to considered wind legal.

In the 300m hurdles, Harris finished second to Allen senior Sidney Green for the second year in a row. Harris' time was 41.69. Green ran a 40.63, breaking her own meet record of 40.68 which was set last year.

The finals of the 100m hurdles is scheduled for 2:30pm on Saturday.

South Beauregard's Trinity Spooner found some magic under those Texas Friday Night Lights at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Spooner had a throw of 171-11 to break the meet record (169-4) in the girls javelin, set last year by Spooner's friend Mckenzie Fairchild. The throw is the longest in Louisiana history, surpassing Rachel Walker's throw of 164-4 on the last throw of the LHSAA State Meet during her senior year in 2002.
