We have been covering the sport all year. Now, it's time to put our knowledge of Louisiana's best HS runners to the test by selecting the winners in the LHSAA Division I State Cross Country Championships.
The picks are in for the Division I and there are few surprises. The staff unnamiously selected to Jesuit's Jack DesRoches to win the Division I boys' race and lead--unnamiously-selected Jesuit with defend their Class 5A state championship from a year ago.
Popular sleeper picks were Brother Martin in the Division I boys' and Jesuit's Brady Mullen. Ruston's Bryar Madden recieved one vote, from MileSplit LA state editor Jerry Byrd, as a sleeper.
In the girls' Division I race, all three MileSplit LA contributors selected St. Joseph's Academy to win their seventh straight LHSAA cross country title. And all three selected the Ruston Lady Bearcats to be the sleeper pick in the girls' team race.
As far as the girls' Division I state champion in concerned, the staff was all over the place. Byrd selected Ruston's Lily Garrett to defend her Class 5A title from a year ago. MileSplit LA writer Gabe Poulin selected St. Joseph's Hannah Vaughan while MileSplit LA videographer Mandi Monistere selected Mt. Carmels Catalina Reichard.
St. Joseph's Michelle Daigle received two votes as a sleeper pick, and Poulin selected Reichard for his sleeper selection.
