US#1 Brandon Green vs. US#2 Jeremy Nelson...Here We Go!

It's really the moment we've all been waiting for since Ruston's Brandon Green and Ouachita's Jeremy Nelson went head-to-head at the LHSAA Division I State Indoor Meet. Sure, they have gone head-to-head during the regular, but this is the championship season. District, regional, and --the most important--state championships are on the line beginning this week at the District 2-5A meet at ULM

It's Mr. Ruston vs. Mr. Ouachita!

The fact of the matter is that Nelson has only beaten Green once when the two have triple jumped head-to-head. That was in the 2019 District 2-5A meet. Nelson, who was a freshman, jumped 43-9.5. Green had a best of 41-7.

Despite the lack of success, there is no doubt--even from Green--that jumping against his rival brings out the best from the No. 1 jumper in the nation.

RUSTON'S BRANDON GREEN TALKS ABOUT HIS US#1 TRIPLE JUMP AT THE TEXAS RELAYS

    How did we get here?
The drama started in earnest at the LSU Last Chance Qualifier when Nelson jumped a big PR of to surpass Green in the national rankings. Green chose not jump on that day, but the Bearcat was in the building, watching and emotional Nelson, who engaged the crowd to help him get the nation's leading mark.
Green removed all doubt who was the best at the LHSAA Division I State Indoor Meet, but Nelson didn't go down without a fight, jumping a personal record 49-11.25.
Nelson was knocking on the door of the 50 ft. club. At the D&H Relays at ULM during the first outdoor meet of the season, he kicked it down, jumping 50-3.5 with a little help from a favorable wind.

It didn't sit well with Green when Nelson was back on the top of the national rankings after the first week of the outdoor season. Green had a successful opener, winning the Texas A&M Bluebonnet High School Invitational with a wind-aided 50-2.
That led to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which brought out the best in Green. Green set is US#1 mark of 51-3.75 in the warm conditions at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
