Hurdle Standoff: Louis Rudge V. Justin Horne

During the indoor season, we saw an unstoppable dominance from Justin Horne of John Curtis. He almost went undefeated in the 60m hurdles until he was trumped at the state meet by Broderick Davis. Another name that was in the mix was Louis Rudge of Catholic High. He was yet another nationally ranked hurdler that put up very impressive times during the indoor season and finished 3rd overall at the state meet. Though he has only beaten Horne once before, from the preliminary at the Indoor State Meet this year, he still stands as one of the best hurdlers in the state, if not the nation.

As of right now, Rudge holds a comfortable state lead in the 300m hurdles with Horne coming in right behind him almost a second later. Rudge has run the event two times and both of his performances would still land him at the top of the state.

In the 110m hurdles, it's the opposite. Horne has a demanding lead over the rest of the field with his impressive 13.96 from this last week of competition. The rest of the competition is nowhere close to his time and further solidifies the grounds for debate of who is the best hurdler in the state.

Rudge has proven to have been dominant in the long hurdles while Horne holds down the fort in the short hurdles. Of course, there are other names that deserve to be in the conversation as well such as Broderick Davis and Chaunky Lewis, but that can all be assessed later at the outdoor state meet.

As of right now, the two hurdlers who reign at the top of the state are Rudge and Horne, but who knows what will come later in the season. The outdoor season is still young.

Here is a short comparison of Louis Rudge and Justin Horne's performances so far this season.
