Track & Field Sets Eight Personal Bests At LSU Alumni Gold
April 18, 2009 BATON ROUGE - Senior Keriann Langley won the 1500-meter run, and Tulane set eight personal bests at Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Sophomore Zandria Debowles (400), and junior Olivia Kizzee (100) added NCAA Regional Qualifying marks for the Green Wave. DeBowles placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, with a regional qualifying time of 59.73, her new personal best, while Kizzee turned in a regional qualifying mark of 11.63 in the 100-meter dash, finishing ninth. Langley won the 1500-meter run in 4:54, while freshman Elizabeth Piazza placed eighth (5:30) and sophomoreCaitlin Hornbeck finished ninth (5:32). Sophomore Rebecca Coady was the runner up in the 800-meter run with personal best time of 2:14.35. Senior Shaina Pelham was third in the 400-meter dash, posting a personal best time of 54.92. Sophomore Aiesha Brooks came in 14th in 56.43, also a personal best. Redshirt freshman Julia Whitrock gave Tulane a fourth-place finish in the 5000-meter run, finishing in 17:30.42 to establish a personal best. Coady turned in a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run, with a time of 4:39.07, her collegiate best. Kizzee came in fifth in the 200-meter, crossing the line in 24.13, while freshman Kasey Rodgers placed 16th in 25.35. Rodgers finished 10th in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.96.
Freshman Ana Ruzevic had a 40.96m mark in the javelin to finish seventh. Senior Katarina Busljeta was eighth in the discus with a heave of 42.77m, and she added a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.87m. Brooks, Kizzee, Pelham and Rodgers teamed up to finish sixth in the 4x100 relay, with a time of 46.05, the top mark by a Tulane team in the event this season. The 4x400 relay team of Brooks, DeBowles, Kizzee and Pelham placed eighth in 3:44.26. Raquelle Collins had a distance of 5.22m in the long jump, placing 18th. On the men's side, Jordon Holtzman finished the 800-meter run in 2:00.22 to place 16th. Brian Lozes turned in a time of 4:08.15 in the 1500-meter run to finish 21st. Freshman Koplan Nwabuoku turned in a time of 52.27 in the 400-meter dash, while freshman Kevin Mitchell added a time of 54.47. In the 100-meter dash, freshman Jared Firestone was Tulane's top finisher in 11.04 to place 25th. Freshman Garrett Myer turned in a 11.85 while senior Greg Clayman posted a 12.10. Clayman's 5.57-meter distance was good for 17th in the long jump, with Myer right behind with a 5.56. Firestone added a time of 22.82 in the 200-meter dash, while Garrett Myer finished in 24.15. Freshman Brian Lozes placed 24th in the 5000-meter run in 16:15.52, with sophomore Kyle Esteves adding a 17:39.37 to finish 33rd. Freshman Craig Kolwicz set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 48.51 meters, while Jonathan Kirby also topped his previous mark with a throw of 46.17. Max Weber turned in a toss of 36.27 in the discus. The 4x400 relay team of Firestone, Mitchell, Myer and Nwabuoku placed 22nd in 3:30.86. Tulane is back in action at the Penn Relays April 23-25.
