LAFAYETTE, La. - Junior Olivia Kizzee turned in an NCAA qualifying time in the 100-meter dash, winning the event, and posted another personal best as the Tulane Track & Field teams wrapped up the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette Saturday. Freshman Ana Ruzevic posted a regional qualifying mark in the javelin for the second time this season.

"This was a huge breakthrough for Olivia," head coach Heather Van Norman said. "Her monster time in the 100-meter shows she can be a major player in Conference USA."

Kizzee won the 100-meter dash, posting an NCAA qualifying time of 11.59, her career best. Kizzee also posted a personal best in the 200-meter, finishing third in 24.07.

Freshman Ana Ruzevic posted a regional qualifying mark of 44.76 in the javelin, placing third.

Redshirt freshman Julia Whitrock won the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:10. In the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Rebecca Coady was fifth, post a time of 4:48, while freshman Elizabeth Piazza came in 18th in 5:36. Freshman Jessica Barker was 20th in 6:20.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Zandria Debowles placed third in 1:02. Senior Katarina Busljeta finished fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 46.46 meters.

Freshman Trey Mullany-Banks threw the discuss 33.08 meters, good for an eighth place finish.

On the men's side, senior Ian Batherson was Tulane's top finisher, placing sixth in the pole vault with a height of 4.05 meters.

Garrett Myer finished 10th in the triple jump at a distance of 12.27 meters, and the freshman came in 13th in the long jump at 5.64. Freshman Max Weber placed 10th in the discuss with a throw of 39.84 meters.

In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Brian Lozes was Tulane's top finisher in 4:17.36, placing 15th. Fellow freshman Sean Meisler was 21st, in 4:43.85 and freshman Mike Mainguy was 22nd in 4:51.05.

Freshman Koplan Nwabuoku finished 17th in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 52.32, while senior Andrew Chan placed 18th in the 100-meter, in 12.31.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Jordon Holtzman was 17th in 2:02, with senior Eric Sweeney right behind in 18th in 2:03.

"These meets are for the development of the team," Van Norman said. "We are looking for each individual to learn more about their event, and learn from the mistakes so they they will be at their best when the championships arrive."

Tulane is back in action next weekend at the LSU Tiger Relays, March 27-28 in Baton Rouge.
