Ambrose Narrowly Misses Qualifying for National Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. – Luther Ambrose set a ULM record and missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter dash by just five hundredths of a second as the ULM track team competed at the LSU Twilight Friday evening at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Ambrose, who also plays wide receiver for the ULM football team, was competing for the first time of the indoor season and recorded a time of 6.79 seconds in the race.

Moses Chelimo and Kendall Robbins each recorded a top-five finish in the 3000-meter run. Chelimo finished third with a time of 8:54.92, while Robbins came in fourth at a time of 9:04.99. Joshua Howard also finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 47’ 5.75.”

“Luther Ambrose ran a great 60-meter dash,” head coach JD Malone said. “We had some good finishes and overall had a good meet.”

On the women’s side, Kunesha Calhoun finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40’ 7.5.” Taylor Hill earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 5’ 2.5.”

Alexis Krigbaum recorded a ninth-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:31.64, while fellow Warhawk Sadrina Shaw finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81 seconds.

The Warhawks will be back in action next weekend starting Feb. 28 at the Sun Belt Championships in Jonesboro, Ark.
