 6. Kalon Barnes Goes Big At Adidas Dream 100

While Silsbee (Tx.) High junior Kalon Barnes' win in the Adidas Boost Boston Games Dream 100m wasn't a shock, it by no means was expected, either.

Barnes, who enters with a US No. 2 time of 10.22 seconds, was flanked in Lane 1 and wasn't in the ideal position to generate the kind of start and finish that would facilitate a win.

That honor went to Plantation American Heritage (Fl.) junior Anthony Schwartz, the World Youth U18 record holder in the 100m who shot out of his blocks like an engine.

But Schwartz was coming off a leg injury during his state championship series in May and largely wasn't 100-percent yet.

Barnes took advantage on the inside, generating his top-end speed in the final meters to take away the win in 10.34 seconds.

With the win, three-star football prospect and Baylor University commit, now leaped into the national conversation as one of the nation's best sprinters.

And it also raised an interesting question: Should Barnes double at Baylor in track? The Bears are one of the best college track program's in the country.
