ULM Men's Cross Country Dominant in Choctaw Open

CLINTON, Miss. – The ULM men’s cross country team dominated the field in the Choctaw Open on Saturday in Clinton, Miss., taking five of the top seven finishes to secure the team title.

Moses Chelimo won the individual four-mile race with a time of 20:43.25 to pace the Warhawks who won their second event of the season. ULM finished 37 points better than second place Mississippi College.

“Things could not have gone more perfect on the men’s side,” cross country head coach William Rodgers said.  “This is a really big confidence booster for us heading into the Sun Belt Conference Championship meet.”

Britt Koestler finished second overall with a time of 20:52.57. Andrew Opata, Seth Hall, and Jorel Torres finished fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively. Hunter Russell came in 10th while Kentwon Carter finished 15th to round out the field for ULM.

The Warhawk women’s team was not scored for team competition, but Denise Myers finished 20th in the individual competition with a time of 21:33.75. Mississippi College won the team competition for the women.

ULM will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Nov. 1.
