Centenary Runners Get Feet Wet at Mook 4

RUSTON, La.—The Centenary cross country teams kicked off their seasons by participating in the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 Invitational on Saturday morning just hours before the far-reaching rain and wind bands of Hurricane Ike arrived. Both teams defeated Louisiana College, while the women also handily bested the host Lady Techsters.

 

The Ladies got strong performances from newcomer Brittany Wilkens and veteran Cara Miccoli. Wilkens finished fifth overall with a time of 16:18 over the 4k course in her first race and Miccoli placed eighth with an effort of 17:00.

 

Newcomers Jacquelyn Batson and Mellynn Baker landed in 13th and 14th places with times of 17:34 and 17:41 respectively. Sophomore Natalie Holcomb took 15th place (18:15), Sunny LaGrone was 19th (18:25), and Ashley Fallin finished 20th (18:38).

 

The Ladies discarded Louisiana Tech 15-40 and produced an identical score against Louisiana College. Grambling and Arkansas-Pine Bluff beat the Ladies by the scores of 23-32 and 21-34.

 

For the men, Adam Nerio (23:47) and Adam Walton (24:23) paced the squad with 20th and 21st place finishes. Robert Poole (25:04), Michael Haydel (25:26), Jonathan Martin (25:39), and Christopher Patterson (25:42) finished 23rd through 26th to round out the participants for the Gents.

 

The Gents beat Louisiana College 15-40, but fell to Louisiana Tech, Grambling, and UAPB by the same scores of 40-15.

 

Both the Ladies and the Gents will next compete at Louisiana-Monroe next
