NCAA champion Chris Hill to be featured performer at javelin meet at the McNeese track on August 9

Chris Hill, the reigning NCAA champion, along with some of his friends  and former collegiate greats will put on a javelin meet Saturday, August 9 at McNeese State’s Cameron Communications track and field complex.

Hill, a native of Sulphur who attends the University of Georgia,  will be attempting to reach the Olympic A standard of  268-4 feet to qualify for the world championships next year.  He has a career best of 268-3 and just missed qualifying for the USA Olympic team recently.

The event will begin at  4:30 p.m. and admission will be $5 a person, all proceeds going to the McNeese State track and field program.

An exhibition will take place at 4:30 p.m. and the open division featuring Hill will get underway at 5 p.m.Current competitors Corey White of Southern Cal, McNeese assistant coach Jon Fagan, Richard McKay of Louisiana-Monroe and Larry Jones will compete in an open event with Hill while such former collegiate performers like McNeese athletic director Tommy McClelland, Delmon McNabb, Dennis Morris, Bobby Barnes, A. J. Seymour, Richard Sanders, Bill Simon, Darin Stewart, Samantha Chesson and Shane Curlee are scheduled to take part in the exhibition.
 

McCelland tossed the javelin while attending Northwestern State and Morris, Barnes, Seymour, Stewart, Simon and Chesson performed at McNeese.  McNabb was a high school world record holder at Lake Charles High and went on to greater fame at LSU.  Curlee also threw for Northwestern State.
