Phillips Sets School Record and Qualifies for NCAA Championships
April 6, 2008
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University track and field senior Aubrey Phillips set a school record and a provisional qualifying time in the 10,000-meter run late Saturday night at the Stanford Invitational at the Cobb Track and Angel Field in Stanford, Calif.
Phillips ran the 10,000m in 34 minutes, and 53.01 seconds to place seventh in her section and shatter her own school standard by almost two minutes.
"Aubrey has worked hard in the weight room and on the track all year," said Tulane assistant coach Chris Neal, who was at Stanford with Phillips. "She came out tonight and really laid it all on the line, and cut almost two minutes off her time. She has definitely earned her spot in the record books."
Freshman Rebecca Coady ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:31.25 and junior Katarina Busljeta threw the discus 43.79 meters (143 feet-8 inches) at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The Green Wave return to action next weekend when the team travels to the Ole Miss Invitational. For all Tulane track and field news, interviews and results, visit www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
