HOUSTON -- Northwestern State throwers Daniel Yarbrough and Trecey Rew were winners Saturday at the Bayou City Championships indoor track and field meet hosted by the University of Houston.

Yarbrough took the men’s weight throw with a 61-2 ¼ mark, edging Southland Conference rival Matt Landgon of Stephen F. Austin (60-10).

Rew was the top collegiate thrower with her second-place finish in the shot put on a 47-11 throw, topping SLC rival Frednisha Marshall of SFA, who had a 46-8 ¼ best. Unattached athlete Abby Ruston had the best throw in the competition but it did not count in the collegiate standings.

Marshall was the overwhelming winner in the weight throw (61-11) while Rew was second at 53-1 ¾. NSU teammate Alison Holmes was fourth (52-1) and Lady Demon Dejon Griffith finished ninth (46-3 ¼).

Jessica Tuck gave the Lady Demons a fourth place in the B division of the women’s long jump with a 17-4 leap. Mike Green was seventh in the A division of the men’s long jump for Northwestern by leaping 22-11.

The Demons’ distance medley relay team finished third in 11:22.39.

Action continued Saturday afternoon at the Bill Yeoman Field House.
