ULM Track Team Enjoys Great Outing at LSU Purple Tiger Invitational - Another Broken Record and more

  BATON ROUGE, La. --- Highlighted by a broken school record in the men's 4 X 400 and a first-place finish by junior Heather Davis in the high jump, the ULM Track & Field enjoyed a successful weekend at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational.  "We were please with the overall performance of our team," ULM Track & Field head coach J.D. Malone said. "We are in the middle of a very hard training phase, but the kids are still performing well. We are looking forward to an off weekend up next before we return to action." For Davis, the first-place finish was her first of the season and her second in the Top 5 in as many chances. The Spring, Texas native cleared the bar at 1.71 meters to best the 19 person field. On the men's side the men's 4 X 400 meter team of seniors Malcolm Bosworth and Kendrick Shepard and juniors Mychal Word and Andrew Opata broke the school record with a time of 3:17.22 to place second overall. ULM's 'A' squad finished less than half a second behind the 'A' squad from host LSU for the top spot. Opata also finished with a strong showing in the 400 meter run, placing third overall with a time of 49.65. The Seeta-Kampala, Uganda-native was the top attached runner on the afternoon in the event. Word gave the Warhawks a top-five finisher in the men's 200 meter dash, finishing fourth overall with a time of 22.66. ULM also received top-five finishes on the men's side from freshman Ruslan Hemed in the pole vault (Fifth place – 4.30 m) and in the shot put from junior Seth Ilaoa (Fourth place – 15.61 m). Ilaoa also finished eighth overall in the weight throw with a toss of 15.01 meters. On the women's side, the Warhawks received top-five finishes from freshman Jerrica Thomas in the long jump (Second place – 5.48 m) and junior Destiny Montemayor in the weight throw (Fourth place – 16.25) 

The Warhawks return to the on January 31 and February 1 in split squad action. ULM will return to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the LSU Combined Event on Thursday and will be in Lubbock, Texas on Friday for the Texas
