Throwback Thursday #9

The championship season kicks off mid next week with several district meets rolling out on Wednesday of next week. One of those meets is the Catholic League meet which has produced many individual and team champions at the state level throughout the years. We're going to look back at the Catholic League championship meet of 2010. This was a particularly interesting meet for two different reasons, one being the competitiveness of the girls and the other being the non-competitiveness of the boys.

Philip Aucoin of Jesuit at the state meet.

The weather for the meet was cool, in the high 50s, but there were strong winds that slowed the competitors down a bit. On the girls side, Mount Carmel and Dominican went toe to toe and some heavy hitting names clashed. The top five finishing names should be fairly familiar to the running community: Ellen Barkemeyer, Meghan Charbonnet, Morgan Passman, Andi Aguilar and Mia Meydrich. Dominican ended up with the upper hand with their top 2 under 19 and top 4 under 20, but MCA was not far behind. These two squads would eventually go 2-3 at the state meet with Dominican narrowly losing to SJA by 10 points.

The boys side was not so interesting from a team race standpoint, but interesting for what happened. Jesuit perfect scored the district meet. Brother Martin's top runner crossed as the sixth finisher giving Jesuit the rare (possibly only?) perfect score at a Catholic League meet. Jesuit was led by Philip Aucoin who would also go on to have a commanding victory at the state meet as well. Jesuit would pick up the narrow 3 point victory over Catholic High at state.
