Pearson, Bor are top NSU runners at SLC cross country championships

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Chris Pearson and Naumy Bor were the top runners Saturday morning for Northwestern State at the 2007 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships.

Pearson, a junior from Mount Vernon, Texas, ran 35th for the Demons with a 26:56 time over an 8,000-meter track. Bor, a senior from Kenya, was the top Lady Demon finisher, running the 6,000-meter course in 23:53.4 to finish 46th. Northwestern was 11th of 12 teams in both divisions.

Lamar took the men’s team title with 37 points, edging the host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders by four points. Texas-Arlington was t hird with 73. Northwestern scored 301, topping Nicholls (330). Defending NCAA champion Shadrack Songok of TAMCC won in 24:05.

In the women’s division, TAMCC turned the tables, beating Lamar by four, 48-52. Stephen F. Austin was a distant third with 98. The Lady Demons had 296, ahead of McNeese, which failed to finish five runners to record a score. Lamar’s Clerc Koenck won the individual crown in 20:48.1.

Second scorer for the NSU women was Shannon Foley in 24:06.8, good for 48th place. Brittany Culotta was 63rd in 25:46.4, with Courtney Hershberger 69th in 27:37.4 and Joanne Penn rounding out the scorecard in 70th with a 27:42.4 time. Andrea Warren was one spot back for NSU in 29:33.5.

For the Demons, Cade Gentry was the second finisher in 28:53 for 62nd. Dusty Dischler ran third for NSU, 66th overall in 29:25. Galen Mudd took 69th in 29:42, while Nathanial McReynolds completed the Demons’ scoring in 70th with a 29:50 time. Cameron Mehl of NSU finished 77th in 32:45.
