Tulane Cross Country Nabs Fifth Place at Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - The Tulane cross country team seized fifth place at the Auburn Invitational Saturday morning as the Green Wave was once again paced by senior Aubrey Phillips and freshmen Lauren Dalrymple and Rebecca Coady, while all runners claimed personal records.

Phillips ran a cross country personal best time of 17:24.05 to place 16th overall, while freshmen Lauren Dalrymple (17:36.55) and Rebecca Coady (17:54.95) placed 22nd and 31st, respectively. Seniors Keriann Langley (18:04.56) and Jill Shriver (19:37.66) rounded out the Tulane scorers. The Wave travelled only five runners to the meet to give injured teammates a chance to recover.

"Our goal was to finish in the top five and we did that," Tulane Assistant Coach Chris Neal said. "We were really happy with the way the meet turned out. Our upperclassmen ran like upperclassmen and our freshmen ran well. You always wonder how freshmen will adjust to college running."

The girls in olive and blue finished behind Florida, Iowa, Davidson, and Auburn, respectively, placing only 13 points behind the host team. Two of the top five teams in the meet are ranked nationally.

"We have met every goal so far this season," said Neal. "We wanted to be undefeated through the LSU meet, and finish top five at Auburn. We have come a long way in one year. Last year at this meet, we would have struggled to crack the top ten, but today we finished fifth without running at full strength."

The Green Wave return to action in two weeks with a full-strength team on Oct. 13 when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Chile Pepper Festival.
