Auburn trip

I woke up at 5:15 this morning … because I stank and needed to take a shower and fix my beautiful hair before 6 a.m. departure from Brown Stadium.  We had breakfast waiting for us, and we left at 6 O’clock sharp.  Coach Reep started things off by playing “Fifty Dollars” by Bleau Edmonson with his iPod.  Both Pat Gavin and Coach Reep brought iPods and they took turns playing songs from their pieces of equipment.  Clearly, Pat’s choice of songs were far more enjoyable than Coach Reep’s!!!  Occasionally Coach Reep would play a song, but some were just too much Rock for me.  Our first stop was somewhere just past Clinton, Mississippi…bathroom break!  Plus Amanda had to buy a toothbrush because she forgot hers….supposedly she forgot hers because she brushed her teeth right before she left for the trip, but I don’t know if I can trust her??  At about 8:00 a.m. Jess broke out some cool snacks…. m&m’s, reeses pieces, starburst and Pat played some Weezer for us!  Jess couldn’t take the music – the Beatles in particular – she put on her head phones and zoned out our music.  Coach Reep did end up playing some country CRAP, but luckily Pat took over the music dial after 1 country song.  Our next pit stop was in Alabama (somewhere near the state line).  Richard bought (10:15 a.m.) a couple of pickled eggs – they were smelling pretty picklish! “Pickles don’t lay eggs Claire! Eggs come from chickens!!” Right after we left the convenient store, Coach Reep ran a red light…we almost freaking died!!!

We stopped for lunch at Ruby Tuesdays in Montgomery at about 12:07.  The whole hour before we stopped, Amanda kept writing on my arm with a yellow highlighter….I’m pretty sure it was just a flirting method because I know she wants my body.  We had about a 17 minute wait to be seated….I guess it’s not too long of a wait for 10 people.  I chose to eat the chicken avocado burger.  It turned out to be pretty tasty!  At 1:20 Coach Reep said “As one sheperd said to the other, get the flock out of here.”  About 20 minutes after lunch we spotted Tulane’s charter bus…. When we passed the bus, Pat was hanging out the window with a ULM XC shirt waiving in his hands…. Wow we are TOUGH!  We arrived at Best Western Hotel at 2:17.  I was assigned to room 109 with Richard… haha the only other ULM male runner competing this weekend.  When I got to my room, I watched a little Reno 911 with Richard and then took a nap for almost 1 ½ hours.  At 4:45 we headed for the course for a short run and to pick up our packets.  Side note: on the way over Amanda said she would do anything for me.  PG, Rich Dogg and I ran the course together.  It seemed like a pretty fast course….(plus there were several cute ladies on the course).  When we got back to the hotel, I took a shower, I shaved my legs…..after I got out of the shower, I shaved my face….well, I shaved the little bit of hair that grows.  When I got through cleaning up, Rich Dogg got back to the room and delivered the message to me that Pat Gavin had demolished him in a game of checkers!

We left for Olive Garden at 7:30!  When we got there, we found out we had a 35 minute wait… Amanda, Claire, Brittany, and Janie took a walk to Dillard’s so they could go to MAC – supposedly some type of make-up joint – actually… they never ended up making it to the store and our wait was only 15 minutes for seating.  I ended up getting the Never Ending Pasta Bowl… but of course only ate one bowl of pasta.  The bread sticks were great!  We got back to the hotel at 9:28 and had a team meeting that was set for 9:45 (another side note: Amanda keeps hating on me!  She keeps telling me I’m gay, but only in hopes of getting me to prove her wrong.  I think she wants me to kiss her or soemthing  That it for tonight stay tuned till tomorrow……  Seth

DAY 2 AUBURN TRIP

September 29, 2007

Sleep was pretty good last night.  I fell asleep around 10:15-20 and slept until 6:15…well, I woke up once at about 4:45, but went back to sleep.  I immediately took a shower after waking…it’s one of those things I always like to do the day of a race.  After showering, I hit up our continental (FREE!!!) breakfast.  I faced a problem at breakfast-I didn’t know what to eat…I never know what to eat before a race.  My stomach is so dumb and jacked up.  Pat and I talked about eating habits before races and the only thing we could come up with was that it’s better to eat to little than to eat too much.  We are set to leave for Indian Pines at 7:30.  We arrived to the course at 7:36.  We were the second team there only behind Columbus State University.  Coach issued us our numbers and pins…I was #370.  We found a nice chilling spot near the starting line…we were also close enough to the music they had playing to where we would get our dance on!  It was mainly Amanda Bartlett trying to dance with me, ha.  The girls ran at 9:30.  It seemed like they ran pretty good.  Claire Clark led the way with an 18:52ish.  My race was set for 10:15.  It was still cool outside, but the wind was pretty nasty.  My race ended up going ok.  I ran 27:19.  It’s a pr, but like most people, I had hopes of running faster.  I think my 3 mile split was 16:15…so yeah, I slowed down a bit over my last 2 miles.  I think Richard ran around 28:10-20ish..a pr for him as well.  I think the overall male winner ran something sick like 23:40s ish!  He runs for Florida…it was Enoch Nadler who happened to be a junior counselor at Brevard distance runner’s camp when I went.

After the race, I took down a few more reeses pieces and starburst and we headed back for the hotel to clean up for our trip home.  At 12:25 we left for Subway.  Subway was all good except one thing…The guy working dropped about 15 cookies on the counter and instead of putting them back up in the tray(or freaking giving them to me) he threw every single one of those cookies away.  What a Freaking Queer!  We left for Monroe at 12:54.  We made our first bathroom break at 2:50 and I don’t have a clue as to where we are?  I’ve been studying chemistry and history the past hour or hour and a half…I don’t know how much of my studies I’m retaining though, I’m getting pretty sleepy.  The highlight of the trip home so far has been the Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo fruit flavored snacks we have.  I think I’m going on pack #6 now.  We definitely had to take some long ridiculous detour right before the Mississippi line…it added a good 10 min to an already long trip.  We ended up getting pretty bored and Amanda and Pat started drawing tattoos on my body.  Amanda drew a pretty cool gun and a love picture of the 2 of us, and Pat drew a gay rainbow on me.  Our next stop was at 5:45 in some place called Texahachee or something.  Pat bought a pretty cool coloring book at the convenient store, and for the next one and a half to 2 hours Pat drew/colored individual pictures for each runner and even our runners and even our trainers.  Each picture had a special hand written note from Pat…what a nice guy!  We got back to our track at approximately 8:00!  Good Trip!
