MONROE, La.�The Centenary cross country teams both split their four dual meets at the Louisiana-Monroe Invitational on Saturday, each going 2-2 on the day. The Gents defeated Louisiana-Monroe and Northwestern State while the Ladies knocked off Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State.
Both the men’s and women’s top finishers for Centenary captured ninth place. For the Gents, Michael Haydel led the way with an 8K time of 28:14. Just seconds behind was Adam Nerio at 28:19 in 12th place and William Fell at 28:37 in 14th place. Rounding out the top four for Centenary was Adam Walton in 15th place (29:01). William Booth (34:56) and Saul Castaneda (35:57) placed 30th and 31st respectively for the Gents.
The men beat ULM 25-30 and NSU 24-31 while falling to Louisiana Tech and Grambling State by matching 20-35 scores.
On the women’s side, Lori Von Pingel’s ninth place finish came with a time of 21:22 in the 5K run. Last weekend’s top runner for the Ladies, Natalie Holcomb, pushed Von Pingel and fell just short of the senior in 10th place at 21:26. Ashley Fallin finished in 15th (22:13), Cara Miccoli grabbed 19th (22:36), and Jessica Brown took 21st (23:06) to comprise Centenary’s top five runners. Also participating in the meet for the Ladies were Laura Way (23rd, 23:19), Ashley Voorhies (28th, 25:27), and Molly Broderick (29th, 26:16).
The Ladies discarded Louisiana Tech 18-37 and NSU 23-32. Louisiana-Monroe defeated Centenary 15-40 and Grambling State emerged victorious with a 21-34 score.
Both the Ladies and Gents will compete next on Monday, October 1, at Northwestern State.
