Xavier wins men's and women's titles

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana won the men's and women's team championships, and Mobile's Dennis Kimeli and Loyola's Mary Erin Imwalle won the individual titles Saturday in the Xavier/Loyola Big Easy Invitational cross country meet at Audubon Park.
Xavier's Gold Rush had five of the first seven male finishers and scored 22 points. Mobile was was second with 49. Kimeli won the 8,000-meter men's race in 29 minutes, 0.69 seconds, nearly 17 seconds faster than runner-up Milo Barry of Xavier.
Xavier's women had four of the first 10 finishers to win its division with 28 points. Loyola was second with 43. Imwalle ran 5,000 meters in 20:36.65 to win her race by nearly 10 seconds over Xavier's Ebony Harding, the runner-up.
The team victories were the first of the season for Xavier's women and the second in three weeks for Xavier's men, who are 13-1 and ranked fifth in NAIA Region XIII.
