LAFAYETTE, La. - The Grambling State men’s cross country team returned to their winning ways with a first place finish in the Ragin’ Cajun Cross Country Invitational last Friday in Lafayette, La.
The Tigers defeated Sun Belt foe and meet host Louisiana-Lafayette 22-35 en route to claiming their first meet of the 2007 campaign. Senior Kerone Fairweather led the way with a first place time of 23:15.84 while fellow Tiger Brent Flurry placed second after running a time of 23:26.58. Abdi Chepkwony garnered a fourth-place finish of 23:45.05 and the duo of Prinzton Carey and Paul Irvin completed the meet with seventh and eighth-place times of 23:58.96 and 24:12.24, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were Mickell James (24:50.47) in 10th and Brian Ramos (24:56.29), who finished 11th.
On the women’s side, the Lady Tigers completed the meet with a third-place finish behind Nicholls State and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Electine Orido finished as GSU’s top performer with a fourth-place time of 20:45.20 while Sha’tina Anderson finished sixth with a run of 20:51.49. Also earning points for the Lady Tigers were Raquel Parker (13th-22:15.91), Marissa Golson (16th-22:31.96), Shantel Parker (18th-22:56.89) and the duo of Christina Vinson (20th-23:17.61) and Rose Taruiui (21st-24:08.18).
Both teams return to action next Saturday, Sept. 22, in the ULM Warhawk Invitational on the campus of Louisiana at Monroe beginning at 9:15 a.m.
