GRAMBLING CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON WITH SECOND AND THIRD PLACE FINISHES

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Grambling State men’s and women’s cross country teams captured second and third place respectively, in the Southern Arkansas University Invitational this past weekend.
            On the men’s side, the Tigers scored 33 points with second, fifth, seventh, ninth and 10th-place finishes.  Brent Flurry was GSU’s top runner with a time of 22:25 while Prinzton Carey, Paul Irvin, Mickell James and Abdi Chepkwony rounded out GSU’s top 10 runners.
            The Lady Tiger cross country team placed two runners among the top 10 finishers en route to scoring 65 points in the invitational.  Electine Orido, who placed fifth, was GSU’s top runner with a time of 20:52.  Shatina Anderson followed with a ninth-place time of 21:38.
            Both teams will return to action next week as they participate in the Ragin’ Cajuns Invite in Lafayette, La. on Friday at 6 p.m.
