Track & Field Athletes Prep for Worlds in Monaco

MONACO -- Lady Tiger great Lolo Jones led a contingent of four former LSU standouts who competed at the 2007 Herculis in Monte Carlo on Wednesday as she earned a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles at Louis II Stadium.

Jones, who is preparing to represent the United States at the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan, later this summer, finished just a split-second behind event champion Cherry Damu of the United States with a time of 12.78 seconds in the final.

Jones -– a three-time NCAA champion and 11-time All-American during her LSU career from 2001-04 -- earned the right to represent her country at the World Championships for the first time in her career with a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles at the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June.

Former Tigers Derrick Brew of the United States and Isa Phillips of Jamaica are also set to compete at the World Championships beginning Aug. 25 as each finished sixth in their events at the Herculis. Brew clocked a 45.49 in the 400 with Phillips posting a 49.73 in the 400 hurdles.

In addition, former LSU national champion John Moffitt earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump at the Herculis as the reigning Olympic silver medalist posted a mark of 25 feet, 6 ¾ inches during Wednesday’s action. Moffitt will not compete at this year’s World Championships.
