Tech Makes World Class Statement in Relays; Five of Eight Athletes Finish All-America

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Louisiana Tech’s track and field squad could not have capped off the 2007 NCAA Nationals in any better way than how the women’s 4x400 relay team competed.

“I can only think of two words,” Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. “World class. This is unbelievable.”

The 4x400 team of seniors Nina Gilbert, Miriam Barnes and Latonia Wilson along with freshman Kamelia Story not only shattered the school record, their time of 3 minutes, 28.90 seconds ranks them third in the country and currently in the Top 10 in the entire world.

“I’m so proud of our girls,” Stanley said. “For them to do this on a national stage like they did is incredible. All four of our runners were flawless. It was the perfect way to end the season.”

The entire 4x400 team earned All-American honors along with sophomore Michael Coleman in the men’s 100-meter dash after finishing tenth in the country with a time of 10.26. Wilson earned the honors in the 200 at thirteenth place at 23.28 while Barnes took All-America in the women’s 400-hurdles after placing eleventh with a time of 57.56.
