LA Tech 4x400 Finishes Second, Breaks School Record at Mideast Regional

 


COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The women’s 4x400 team of seniors Latonia Wilson, Nina Gilbert, and Miriam Barnes along with freshman Kamelia Stroy broke the Tech school record with a time of 3 minutes, 31.70 seconds for an outstanding second place finish beating schools such as Arkansas, Tennessee and Ole Miss Saturday at the 2007 NCAA Mideast Regionals on the campus of the University of Missouri.

“When you look at the schools in this region, this was a great effort by our team today,” Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. “I’m very happy with everything today. It wasn’t a perfect meet, but it was still a good meet. We’re ready for Sacramento.”

Wilson also had a third place in the women’s 200 with a time of 23.15, while sophomore Michael Coleman and freshman Albert Fullwood finished fourth and fifth in the men’s 200 with times of 21.16 and 21.19, respectively.

Barnes also had a personal best in the women’s 400-hurdles with a time of 56.71 for a fifth place finish.

The men’s 4x400 of senior Wendell Woods, junior Mark Dillard, sophomore Michael Coleman and freshman Albert Fullwood also put up a great effort with a sixth place finishing time of 3:08.58.

Tech’s track squad will find out Monday who all will qualify for the NCAA Finals to be held June 6 in Sacramento, Calif.
