March 20, 2007
McNeese State freshman javelin thrower Chris Hill has been named the Southland Conference male track athlete of the week.
Hill was honored for his school record 230-1 throw last week at the Louisiana Classics track meet. The rookie from Sulphur now ranks as the nation's top collegiate javelin thrower.
He will be in action along with his teammates on Saturday in the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge.
Thus far in two meets this outdoor season, the Cowboys have had three athletes achieve NCAA regional qualifying marks. Hill is one and the others are John Walledom also in the javelin at 202-5 and Marcus Brown in the long jump at 24-9 1/4.
Head coach Ty Sevin said that he expected at least 15 athletes to reach NCAA regional qualifying marks this year for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.
