Boys Distance Recap:

This week we saw Patrick Walker reverse the finishing order from last meet’s Catholic Tip Off on teammate Brian Lumpkins as the two recorded a 1-2 finish in 4:30 and 4:31 while Duhnam’s Ryan Darling turned in another solid performance in the Brother’s of the Sacred Heart Invite with a 4:34 which unless I’m wrong is a big PR for him.  Heading east to Covington we saw a rematch from the boy’s indoor state 1600.  However, this time it would be Jeff Sanders pulling off the win as he lead the entire race with Mark Mendrek-Laske trailing a few strides back before blowing open the race as he appeared to kick from 700 out in front of the home crowd to record a (LA#1) 4:26. Heading south to the New Orleans area Kevin Fitzgerald or Star Fox, as dubbed by the Louisiana message board folk took the Rummel Classic with a 4:28.

In the 3200 Philip Primeaux and Seth Magio followed their Catholic High teammates lead from the mile earlier that day and swept the deuce with 9:47 and 9:57 clocking. Alex Breaux tried his hand in the mile this week but found a little more comfort when he reached the two as he cruised to the win in 9:53 – while Jeff Sanders also doubled up in the two recording a 9:52.  With Breaux’s longer race dominance and Jeff Sanders oncoming speed/distance combo there could be an interesting race shaping up if these two were ever to race…

Girls Distance Recap:

The Barbe Buc Invitational seemed like the place to be this weekend for female distance elites.  We saw things get kicked off as Cierra Johnson of Redemptorist shaved a second off her half mile time of 2:22 from last weekend’s STA season opener.  From this point things just continued to heat up as Simone Domingue continued to prove that strength often comes in small packages as she placed second in the 1600-meters in a personal best time of 5:26 [Amy Guinn 1st in 5:22 (LA#1) ] and came back two hours later to win the 3200-meters in a State leading and personal best time of 11:23 [Lydia Woodward 2nd in 11:36]. While across the state Freshman phenom Malia Calia distanced herself from local competition to record a 5:27/11:51 double in the STA/SSA all girls meet.
