Wolf Pack track competes at Southeastern

Denise Powell topped the Wolf Pack 800m runners on Friday

(Hammond, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s track and field teams took on 11 NCAA Division I opponents at the Southeastern Lion Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Track and Field Complex.

Michael Corso took third place in the 3000m race. The junior finished with a time of 9:16.79 just behind Harry Wiggins of Southeastern Louisiana and William Hamilton of McNeese State.

In his first triple jump event of the year, freshman Christian Lynch fell just short of the school record with a mark 13.05m. Martin Morse has held the school record of 13.27m since 1999. Lynch took sixth in the triple jump while also finishing eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.75m.

Justin Johnson was .18 seconds short of the school’s 400m mark. He finished with a time of 50.75 seconds. Piero Ramirez set the current school record with a time of 50.57 last season.

Denise Powell had the top Wolf Pack 800m time of the season when she finished the race in 2:29.25. She finished in eighth, just ahead of Kennedi Henneberger and Jessica Williams. Henneberger finished in 11th with a 2:30.14 mark while Williams took 12th with a 2:33.33 time.

Loyola’s track and field teams will return to action at the SSAC Championship meet on April 25th and 26th in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
