Roy, Fortenberry Post Strong Efforts for Privateers at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Darius Roy set a new season best in the 100-meter while scoring top honors in the event to help lead the New Orleans Privateers track and field team in the McNeese State Spring Time Classic on Saturday.

Roy ran the 100 in a 10.41 as he continues to improve in the sprints. That time is now good enough for second-fastest in the Southland only behind Justin Walker of Northwestern State who turned in a 10.29 at the Texas Relays. Roy also ran the 200-meter, and finished third overall with a 21.25.

Also showing improvement as the season wears along is Alexia Fortenberry. In the 100-meter hurdles, Fortenberry placed fourth while clocking a 14.00. She was followed closely behind by teammate Sofia Johnsson who finished sixth with a 14.15. Fortenberry set a personal best as well, and is in sixth among all Southland athletes in the 100-hurdles.

The day saw a couple of other personal bests including Cal Wood who threw the javelin at 154'7" while finishing in seventh place. Karl Saluri came off his fifth place finish in the decathlon in Texas to set a personal best in the shot put.

The Privateers will have representation in two events next week in the Southeastern Invitational in Hammond and the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge. Both events will be on Saturday, Apr. 19.
