NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team was well represented in Gainesville at the Florida Relays on Friday and in Nacogdoches, Texas at the Skecher's Carl Kight Invitational on Saturday.
Members of the team had strong showings at both venues, but Tessni Carruthers was the story of the weekend, posting a time of 4:27.85 in Florida to set the school record in the 1500 meter. The previous school record was 4:29.02, also held by Carruthers.
In Texas, Kierranika Duncan had a strong performance in the long jump, finishing third with a jump of 16' 10.76''.
Kierranika also contributed to an eighth place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, along with Quadri Newson, Ashley Johnson, and Kyesha Thomas. The team posted a time of 48.35.
Johnson also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 57.82.
In the long jump, Thomas rounded out the top ten performances for the Colonels, coming in seventh with a jump of 16' 10.76''.
The team will look to continue their success in outdoor competition as they head to Lake Charles on Saturday to compete in the McNeese State Spring Time Classic.
