SAN MARCOS, Texas – Albert Fournette captured his third individual title in the men's shot put in as many meets as he turned in a dominant performance and led the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team to three first-place finishes during the final day of the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.
Ricky Theyard earned a first-place finish in the men's triple jump while Tarvia Conway earned her second individual title in the women's triple jump.
Fournette recorded a throw of 62 feet, 7.75 inches to lead the Cajuns to a 1-2 finish in the event. Kenneth Nassar finished behind Fournette with a throw of 56-2 to post one of three second-place finishes for Louisiana.
Theyard won the triple jump after posting a mark of 48-2.75, edging Brandon Waller of UT Arlington by one-quarter of an inch. Devin Davis (23-11.50) and Theyard (23-4.75) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump while the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished second overall with a time of 42.87 seconds.
Conway paced the Cajuns on the women's side after recording a winning jump of 40-6.75 to win her second straight individual title. Tia Mitchell (19-4.25) and Ta'Shania Bean (19-2.50) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump with Anna Katherine Devitt (10:21.74) earned a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run.
Danielle Castaldi (2:13.46) finished fifth overall in the 800-meter run before running the second leg of the women's 4x400-meter relay team (3:56.73) that finished fifth.
The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action when it competes in the South Alabama Invitational that is scheduled for April 11-12 in Mobile, Ala.
