Warhawks Shine at Jim Mize Invitational

 

RUSTON, La. – Three first-place and four second-place finishes headlined the ULM track & field program’s outing at the Jim Mize Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Louisiana Tech.

 

All-Sun Belt Conference Indoor First-Team selection Isaac Grieder continued to stay hot after winning the pole vault with a personal-record clearance of 5.12m. It stands as the highest jump in the NCAA east region, fourth in the country and shattered the junior’s previous best of 4.83m.

 

Sophomore Dusan Makevic blew away the field in the men’s 1500m with a personal-record score of 3:48.52, the sixth fastest in the nation. It was about two and a half seconds faster than the second-place time and more than 13 seconds faster than the third-place time. 

 

The Warhawks also won the men’s 4x400m relay as the team of sophomore Nigel Cribbs, freshman Jeremy Harden, sophomore Mark Demus and sophomore Andrew Tate ended in a season-best time of 3:14.78.

 

On the women’s side, sophomore Pauline Muiruri notched a second-place time of 11:07.66 in the 3000m. Junior Anakaren Lopez took fourth in the event at 12:37.37.

 

Sophomore Rychlend Martin-Horne highlighted the jumps by bringing home a second-place high jump of 1.65m, a personal-record. Freshman Alexis Gordon excelled in throws with a second-place and personal-record toss of 45.72m in the discus.

 

The Warhawks garnered a pair of top-five finishes in the women’s 800m as junior Teona Glave took third at 2:17.40 and freshman Brittany Garrison tallied a personal-record 2:24.27.

 

In the 400m, sophomore Victoria Bowie turned in a top-10 result with a personal-record 1:01.39 time.

 

Three more personal-records were set in the 100m hurdles as freshman Adriunna Brown clocked in at 14.91, sophomore Ariel Cain at 15.00 and freshman Alexis Morton in 15.33. All three were top-10 times. Brown also posted a personal-best in the 400m hurdles by finishing sixth in 1:05.34.

 

The Warhawks closed it out with a second-place showing in the 4x400m relay. The team of sophomore Brittany Miller, Cain, Glave and Morton grabbed a season-best time of 3:58.95. It was more than 10 seconds faster than ULM’s faster team last weekend at the Southern Miss Invite.

 

Back in the men’s division, Cribbs recorded a third-place time of 48.45 in the 400m, a season-best. Harden led ULM in the 100m with a fourth-place and season-best time of 10.79. Harden also took fifth in the 200m at 21.96.

 

Senior Martin Solomon etched a third-place time in the 110m hurdles of 14.84. Freshman Brandon Banks was also in the top-five at 14.90. Solomon also took third in the 400m hurdles at 53.28, a season-best.

 

Freshman Jevaughn Shaw headlined ULM in men’s throws with a fourth-place hurl of 13.61m in the shot put and a top-five showing in the discus of 48.26m. Both were personal-records.
