FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Louisiana Tech track squad put up a great showing Friday night at the 2007 Tyson Invitational highlighted by the nationally-renowned women’s 4x400 team running the sixth best time in the country for a third place finish against the top relay teams in the country.
The 4x400 team of all seniors Nina Gilbert, Latonia Wilson, Krystal Cole and Miriam Barnes sprinted to a time of 3 minutes, 35.73 seconds in the invitation-only race that featured the top two teams in the country in South Carolina and LSU. Friday nights events can be seen Sunday on ESPN2 at 11 a.m.
“I am very pleased with the teams,” Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley said. “They competed hard tonight.”
Also notable was the WAC’s 2006 Outdoor Freshman of the Year Michael Coleman finishing fourth in the finals of the men’s 60 with a time of 6.75, which breaks the Tech school record.
Gilbert and Cole on the women’s side made a good showing in the women’s 400, taking tenth and eighteenth places with times of 54.41 and 55.52, respectively. Cole’s time is also a personal best.
Matthew Craig finished with a jump of 23 feet, 6.25 inches, in the men’s long jump for a sixth place finish, which puts him currently third in the WAC. In the hurdles, John Kent finished with a time of 8.14, while Wendell Woods finished with a time of 8.19.
Tech’s track and field team will finish up Saturday at Arkansas.
