LAKE CHARLES – Justin Victor claimed his third first-place finish in the weight throw in as many meets and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team earned six first-place performances, including a pair of 1-2-3 efforts in field events, at the McNeese State Cowboy Indoor II meet on Friday at the McNeese State Rec Complex.
Victor claimed the title in the weight throw with a facility-record toss of 66 feet, 2.25 inches, breaking the previous mark (65-2.25) set by Southeastern Louisiana's Adonson Shallow in 2010. Victor's throw highlighted a 1-2 finish in the event for the Cajuns with Landon Carroll finishing second with a throw of 52-6.75.
Devin Davis (long jump), Ricky Theyard (triple jump) and Cole Stafford (3,000-meter run) each earned first-place finishes on the men's side with Ta'Shania Bean (long jump) and Tarvia Conway (triple jump) claiming top honors on the women's side.
Theyard paced a 1-2-3 finish for the Cajuns in the triple jump as posting a mark of 47-4.25. Dionte Heath (45-8) and Quadaex White (45-3.75) finished second and third, respectively for the Cajuns. Davis claimed first-place in the men's long jump for the Ragin' Cajuns after posting a season-high mark of 23-10 with Harald Bust (23-1.75) finishing third.
Stafford claimed his first title in the 3,000-meter run after his winning time (9:02.42) placed him ahead of four Cowboy runners. Nicolas Laurant (15-5) and Josh McDaniels (15-5) finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault while Kenneth Nassar (49-9) and Spencer Nezat (47-8.50) were second and third in the shot put.
Bean paced the Cajuns in the women's long jump with a season-best mark of 19-4.75. She was followed by Stacy Imagbe (18-11.75) and Tia Mitchell (18-11.75), who finished in a second-place tie. Conway claimed the women's triple jump with a distance of 39-10.75 while Aimee Leitko earned a third-place finish in the weight throw (51-5) and Emily Gale (11-11.75) finishing third in the pole vault.
The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Feb. 7-8 when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Samford Multi and Invitational I . The meet at the Birmingham Crossplex will be the first of two consecutive events at the venue for the Cajuns, who will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25.
