JONESBORO, Ark. – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team competed at the Arkansas State Invitational at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, getting two top 10 finishes in the field events from Kierranika Duncan to pace the squad.
The freshman from nearby Raceland has been a solid add for the Colonels this season, as she placed fourth overall in the women's triple jump, clearing 36 feet, 8.50 inches and in the process broke the school record, moving from third to first overtaking Shayann Crabtree's mark of 35-10 which was set in 1999. Duncan followed that up with a leap of 17-00 in the long jump to earn sixth place, improving her all-time standing in the event in Nicholls history.
After a solid performance last weekend in Lake Charles, junior Tessni Carruthers finished sixth in the women's 3000-meter run, crossing the tape in 10 minutes, 20.61 seconds.Precious Semien finished seventh in the 400-meter dash, reaching the end in 1:00.40, while Ashley Johnson finished ninth in 1:00.59. Semien also went on to place 15th in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 26.27 seconds.
Jackie White placed 11th in the mile, completing the race in 5:28. 03, while Emily Charlesworth finished in 16th place in 5:29.86. Ashley Wheeler ran in the 55-meter hurdles, placing 11th overall with her time of 8.71 seconds.
The Colonels will be back in action next weekend, returning to Lake Charles to compete in the second McNeese Indoor meet of the season.
