Demon sprinters post nationally-ranked times at SFA meet

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Northwestern State's sprint corps shined Saturday at the Skechers-SFA Alumni Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin, with Justin Walker andHanoj Carter posting nationally-ranked times to win individual events and teaming on the first-place men's 4x100 meter relay team.
 
Walker (10.36) and Carter (10.39) went 1-2 in the 100 meter dash, with the Southland's top times this season, despite mistaking the finish line and slowing up about 10 meters early. Walker's time ranks 20th nationally, with Carter's mark 23rd.
 
Carter blazed to the nation's fifth-fastest wind-legal 200 meter dash time, a 20.67 clocking, 0.05 back of his league-best mark last month that was over the allowable wind for an NCAA qualifying time. Gabriel White, Walker, Carter and Kendal Taylor gave NSU the men's 4x100 crown with a 40.61 time.
 
Lady Demon standout Quiana Griffin took the women's 400 meter run in 54.95, the conference's third-best mark this season. NSU's Emmanuel Williams was the top collegiate finisher and second overall in the men's triple jump with a 50-9 1/2 mark, second in the Southland and his best by more than three feet.
 
Janae Allen gave Northwestern two more awards stand finishes with a pair of thirds, throwing 162-2 in the hammer and 161-3 in the discus. Keenan Jackson of NSU was the third-place finisher with a 48.36 400-meter dash time.
 
Aaron Williams took fourth in the triple jump for the Demons with his 48-4 3/4 best mark. Angelica KotunEbony VaughnConstance Seibles and Griffin were fourth in the 4x100 women's race (46.70). The Lady Demons got fourth in the long jump from Porsha Thomas (18-7 1/4) with teammate Kenya Thomas sixth (18-4 1/4).
 
Seibles ran fifth for NSU in the women's 400 (57.24), with Jessica Tillery fifth in the triple jump at 38-11, and Delaney Nock fifth in the javelin (118-3).
 
Griffin (24.75 in the 200) and Kotun (12.10 in the 100) took sixth for the Lady Demons, with teammate Rechelle Bessard sixth in the hammer (140-6). The Demons got sixth in the 1500 by Albert Gladney (4:02.45) and in the high jump from Lionel Ellison (6-4 3/4).
 
Aly Coughlin ran seventh for NSU's women in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:02.22). Shakemia Johnson was seventh in the hammer (135-2), Bessard took the same place in the shot put (43-11 3/4) and Sarah Jones was seventh in the triple jump (38-4)

Broussard Leads Track & Field at SFA Alumni Invitational

 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Senior Clint Broussard won his second high jump title of the 2013 outdoor season to pace the ULM track & field team at the SFA Alumni Invitational Saturday. The Warhawks also set several PRs to cap a successful day at the Fletcher Garner Track.

Broussard cleared 6-9 (2.06 meters) to continue his stellar senior season. Broussard entered the day with the top high jump mark in the Sun Belt this season.

Junior Martin Solomon finished the day with a pair of runner-up finishes. Solomon set a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles as he clocked a time of 14.50 to finish just behind Stephen F. Austin’s Nick McCloud (14.35). Solomon’s time is the third fastest in the Sun Belt this season.

Solomon also came up just shy of winning the 400 hurdles as he ran a time of 52.52. Sophomore Jamel Sams finished just behind Solomon in third place with a time of 54.45.

The team of Sams, freshman Nigel Cribbs, freshman Andrew Tate and senior Dimitri Hampton ran the second fastest time in the Sun Belt this season to finish in second place in the men’s 4x400-meter relay.

The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Charles Lafayette, Hampton, Cribbs and freshman Mark Demus also improved on its season-best time, running 41.41 and finishing in third place.

A pair of freshman also set personal records as Lafayette ran a time of 10.79 to finish fifth in the men’s 100-meter dash and Joey Womack finished fourth in the men’s javelin with a top throw of 187-05 (57.12 meters).

On the women’s side, senior Danielle O’Donnell cleared 5-7 (1.70 meters) in the high jump for the first time this season to finish fourth overall. Also, sophomore Teona Glave finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.70.

Track & Field Registers 15 Top-3 Finishes at SFA Invit

 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Louisiana Tech’s track and field program registered 15 finishes in the top three with four event winners at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational at the Fletcher Garner Track in Nacogdoches.

High jumper Pamela Lee tied a personal record with a mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m) as she won the women’s high jump competition. Her mark, which beat Wichita State’s J’Lynn Ledesma by 1.75 inches, ranks second in school history and less than two inches from Ayana Walker’s school record high jump mark of 5-10.5 (1.79m) set in 2000.

In the 100m hurdles, Bianca Jackson set a new personal record as she won with a time of 13.62. Jackson was also part of the 4x100m relay team that finished second with a time of 46.12, joining Charla CraddockBrittany Walker and Victoria Wade on the relay squad.

Craddock also claimed an event win in the 200m, running 24.08 while teammate Kim Francis placed fourth with a time of 24.50. Francis also competed in the 100m where she led all Lady Techsters with a third place finish, running 11.89, while Wade ran 12.11 to place seventh.

Aldresha Bailey placed third in the 400m with a time of 56.23 while Diamond Every ran 58.52 to finish eighth and Danielle Zenon, in her first competition of the season after redshirting the indoor season, ran 59.30 to place 12th. Bailey, Every and Zenon, along with Taneka Henderson, ran on the 4x400m relay and finished second with a time of 3:48.06.

Marcella LeBlanc set a new personal record in the shot put, throwing 51-3.5 (15.63m) to win the event while Micara Vassell (48-10, 14.88m) placed third and Sabrittany Angelle (48-4.75, 14.75m) had a personal record throw to finish fourth.

Vassell also had a top-five finish in the discus, placing fourth with a throw of 156-8 (47.75m).

On the men’s side, Niko Richey ran a pair of personal best times as he placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.59 and ran 21.05 in the 200m to finish second. Kyonz Smith also set a personal record time in the 200m, placing third with a mark of 21.55.

Paul Sakit notched a pair of third-place finishes as he ran a personal record 1:53.76 in the 800m and ran 3:53.96 in the 1,500m.

Evan Warnick placed in both hurdles events, finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.80 and finishing seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.70. Warnick also ran on the 4x400m relay team that placed fifth with a time of 3:18.40. Joining Warnick on the relay was Yusuf MuhammadChristopher Sampract and Smith.

Devin Henderson also recorded a top-3 finish as he jumped 23-7.5 (7.20m) to place third in the long jump.
