LADY TECHSTERS WIN SIXTH CONSECUTIVE WAC TITLE

Cobb dominated the 100m hurdles and shattered her own school record in Saturday's finals, running 13.07. That time is the fastest WAC Championship time since 1999 and currently ranks sixth in the NCAA.

The women's 400m was another Tech-dominated run as the Lady Techsters finished 1-2-3.Kamelia Stroy her third consecutive 400m title, running 54.62 while Lashannda Worthy ran 54.88 to finish second. Monique Wright rounded out the trio - all of which earned first team all-WAC honors - with a time of 55.12 to finish third.

Sales won her second WAC title of the day as she claimed the 200m crown, running a time of 23.69 in the finals. Cobb followed with a second-place time of 23.92 and Shelton placed third, running 24.00. Stacia Hanneman finished sixth for the Lady Techsters with a time of 24.37.

The men's 400m dash finished in similar fashion with Albert Fullwood winning his fourth consecutive outdoor 400m title. Fullwood ran 46.61 to win the title while Justin Terry ran 47.26 to finish second. Josh Goree rounded out the trio of first team all-WAC sprinters, running 48.31 to finish third.

Louisiana Tech swept the 4x100m relay starting with a dominating performance by the women's relay team. Tech's relay of Nancy Shelton,Quanisha SalesRakeisha Green and Chasidee Lewis-Baker ran 44.43 and won by almost two seconds. That time of 44.43 currently ranks 16th in the nation and third in school history as Tech won the WAC title in the 4x100m relay for the eighth consecutive year.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Albert FullwoodKevin StewartJosh Goree and Terry Carter won the WAC title for the third time in four years with a time of 39.89. That mark is a season best time and ranks 23rd in the nation.

In a close men's 100m dash, Kevin Stewart finished fifth with a time of 10.64 (10.639) while Mike Coleman placed sixth with a time of 10.64 (10.640). Terry Carter placed seventh for the Bulldogs with a time of 10.73.

In the men's 200m, Tech finished 1-2-3 with Fullwood winning his third-consecutive title, running 20.71. Terry Carter followed with a time of 21.15 to place second and Kevin Stewart ran 21.18 to finish third.

The Lady Techsters added 21 points to their team total, finishing 2-3-5-6 in the triple jump Saturday with Brittany Guy leading the way with a jump of 41-6.5. That mark by Guy ranks fifth in school history. Quatisha Williams earned her second all-WAC first team honor as she finished third in the triple jump with a personal record jump of 41-5. Sapphira Brown placed fifth with a jump of 39-1.25 while Markeva Daye finished sixth with a jump of 39-1.

Two more Lady Techsters scored in the 400m hurdles as Shante Benion earned first team all-conference honors with a time of 1:00.46 as she finished third while Kia Vanceearned second team honors as her mark of 1:02.79 placed sixth.

Marcelles Atkinson and Wade MaGaha both posted personal record times in the 400m hurdles finals as Atkinson finished third with a time of 51.67 and MaGaha ran 51.94 to place fourth.

Phelecia Reynolds finished second in the discus with a personal record throw of 172-2.

Jonathan Keys placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 49-3 for the Bulldogs to earn first team all-WAC honors.

Jermaine Morris and Alwayne Green placed seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Bulldogs in the 800m. Morris placed sixth with a time of 1:53.21 while Green ran 1:53.61 to finish seventh.

In the men's javelin, a pair of Ruston natives scored for the Bulldogs Saturday as Justin Martin finished third with a throw of 203-3 and Larry Jones finished fourth, throwing 197-11. Jones also scored for Tech in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 53-7.75.

Louisiana Tech now turns its attention to the NCAA East Preliminary (Regional) Championships on May 27-30 in Greensboro, N.C. The top 48 performers in the east region will advance to Greensboro with the top 12 marks in Greensboro in each event advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 9-13. Louisiana Tech is expected to have several athletes qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships.
