Hammer Record Falls as Lions Open Outdoor Season Southeastern Press Release Mar 16, 2009

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Windy and rainy conditions prevented the entire field from posting impressive marks at the Cowboy Relays on the campus of McNeese State on Saturday, with the noticeable exception of junior thrower Adonson Shallow.  The Kingston, St. Vincent and the Grenadines native shattered the school record in the hammer throw on Saturday to lead the Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track and field squads through an arduous opener to the 2009 outdoor season.

In cold and a steady rain, the Cowboys and the Cowgirls scored a combined 294 points to win the cup which will become an annual presentation at the track and field meet.  Southeastern Louisiana  placed second with 272 points and was followed by Northwestern State with 232, Southern 178, Nicholls State 91, UL-Lafayette 82, UL-Monroe 44 and Texas Dallas 38.  Nicholls only entered its women’s team while ULL and ULM only had a partial team entered.

Lake Charles, La. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team competed in the McNeese State Relays Saturday, despite all the rain in the area. Paula Parker headlined the Cajuns performance by taking home first place in the 800m run.
