Carleton Leads XC at SEC Championships

NASHVILLE - LSU senior Laura Carleton finished her final Southeastern Conference Championship race with a top 20 finish in the women's 6k, leading the Lady Tiger Cross Country team to a seventh place finish, accumulating 199 points on Friday.

Carleton placed 12th at the meet with a time of 21 minutes, 2.22 seconds. She was followed by junior Natoya Coule who placed 24th with a time of 21:24.46 and senior Charlene Lipsey who placed 40th with a time of 21:39.25 to round out the top 50.

"We are a little disappointed with the team finish for the girls," LSU head coach Mark Elliott said. "Although the team finish was not what we wanted, I am not disappointed in the individual performances and effort."

Carleton was also named to the All-SEC second team after the meet.

The Tigers, facing intense competition, finished 13th in this week's meet with a total of 378 points.

Senior runner Roger Cooke once again led the Tigers, placing 69th out of 117 runners by posting a time of 25:41.68 in the men's 8k race, which was a personal best for Cooke at Percy Warner Park.

"On the men's side, we have some young guys," Elliott said. "We just didn't have a strong enough team to challenge the middle of the pack. Again, I was pleased with the effort overall."

"Our teams were ready to go, but in the SEC every sport is challenging," Elliott said.

The LSU cross country teams will be back in action Friday, Nov. 9, as they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional meet held at Agri Park Cross Country course. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CDT followed by the men's race at 12:15 p.m.
